Name: Trichloroacetyl chloride
Molecular formula: C2CI4O
Molecular weight: 182
CAS: 76-02-8
Packaging: barrel
Appearance and characteristics: Colorless, transparent, easy-flowing liquid with pungent odor, smokes when exposed to humid air, boiling point 118~120℃ (0.1Mpa), density 1.6329 (20/4℃), refractive index nD1.4700. It is highly irritating and corrosive, can burn the skin, irritate mucous membranes, and corrode metals. It is insoluble in water, but decomposes violently in hot water to produce trichloroacetic acid and hydrogen chloride; it is soluble in most organic solvents, but is decomposed by low-grade alcohols.
Uses: It is widely used as an important intermediate in the synthesis of broad-spectrum, highly effective insecticides and acaricides such as chlorpyrifos, methyl chlorpyrifos, and herbicides.
